i know this is old but there is something that should be pointed out...
BTW: Sending arcmail in an unsecured session is not really supposed to
reach the destination. :)
Why not? As long as you have an unsecure directory for unsecure mail
to go to, I dont see the problem Is there something in the FTSC
protocols that say it should not do so?

if you are using arcmail to mean echomail, this is true... however, archived
netmail should be tossed from the insecure inbound or else how would a NC ever
get an application from a new node? ;)

Still, most tossers will not do that. I know mine wont. I do however check
the unsecure inbound several times a week.

Why should a new node send a netmail in archived form? He can easily send it
uncompressed?! At least my system is listed with the MN flag which according to
FRL-1003 means:

MN No compression supported

| NOTE: While FidoNet nodes usually exchange mail
| using a variety of different file compression
| formats negotiated between individual systems, the
| presence of this flag indicates the INABILITY TO
| RECEIVE MAIL compressed using the SEA ARC version 5
| compression format and/or named according to the
| ARCmail 0.6 mail bundle naming method. This is, by
| convention, the most common mail compression format
| in use within FidoNet. The presence of this flag
| would normally indicate that all mail should be sent
| uncompressed unless there is some overriding
| arrangement with the receiving system.
